Understanding Keyword Density Can Help Your Site Rank Better

Posted on: Thursday, November 29th, 2007 | Written by Wakish

Definition

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page.

exclamation Keywords shouldn’t be over used, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

exclamation If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site.

Calculation

Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Example

Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content. The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page.
So here it is (5 divided by 100 = 0.05). Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

What is the right %

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it.

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

bulb Simple steps to check the density

1) Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.

2) Go to the ‘Edit’ menu and click ‘Select All’. Now go to the ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Word Count’. Write down the total number of words in the page.

3) Now select the ‘Find’ function on the ‘Edit’ menu. Go to the ‘Replace’ tab and type in the keyword you want to find. ‘Replace’ that word with the same word, so you don’t change the text.

4) When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.

==> Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density.

Method For Presentation Of Topics

Posted on: Thursday, November 29th, 2007 | Written by Wakish

Presentation Of Topics

When you plan to write about something (applicable to any other article writing or GP Essays) a methodological approach must always be adopted. It can also be applied to an oral presentation of any topic.

This approach consists of a number of steps which are followed in a logical order:

1) STEP 1 - Understanding

You should make yourself understand the topic first! What it really means, what are its full implications..etc

2) STEP 2 - Definition / Introduction

You should first give a brief description or definition of the topic in a clear, simple language.

3) STEP 3 - Classification

You should classify the facts and details of the topic in a logical, coherent form for your reference.
For example:
- Start with a brief background/history of the topic
- present most common facts first (any general opinions that are already known)
- Show the positive aspects then the negative ones if it is a controversial topic

4) STEP 4 - Presentation / Development

You may now present your topic by following the order of details in the classified references/notes you made in STEP 3
- Use clear language
- Avoid complicated expressions
- In case of an oral presentation, pronounce technical terms clearly and slowly to ensure everyone understands
- Use illustrations only when it is necessary to explain
- You may use references to arouse interests
- Entertain with a joke, but never do this if you are not sure
- You may add an emotional touch if you want, but never exaggerate

5) STEP 5 - Conclusion

You can now conclude by:
- giving your opinion
- summarizing the main points
- Add any last message (make it a striking and impressive one)

This approach is the hard work, knowledge and experience that I have gained personally while I was a college student some 4 years back. All of my articles on writing is based from my own experiences and insights and I have full trust on what I try to teach or show you and I sincerely hope it will be helpful to you. But I’m not in any means saying that I’m a perfect guy in writing.. but consider my “such type of” articles as a humble attempt of sharing the knowledge that I have gained freely from people whom I consider to have attained wisdom (I will surely and undoutedly dedicate this Post to my evergreen english Gury aka my english teacher who is by now aged 68yrs old. Sir, you are always in my heart, God Bless!). I hope you liked this article and I will also suggest you to read my previous articles listed below:

The Importance of Search Engines

Posted on: Thursday, November 29th, 2007 | Written by Wakish

When a topic is typed for search, nearly instantly, the search engine will sift through the millions of pages it has indexed about and present you with ones that match your topic. The searched matches are also ranked, so that the most relevant ones come first.

Remember that a reader will probably only look at the first 2-3 listings in the search results. So it does matter where your website appears in the search engine ranking.

Importance of search engine

It is the Keywords that play an important role than any expensive online or offline advertising of your website.

It is found by surveys that when readers or customers want to find a website for information or to buy a product or service, they find their site in one of the following ways:

1) Through a search engine.
2) By clicking on a link from another website or page that relates to the topic in which they are interested.
3) Occasionally, they find a site by hearing about it from a friend or reading in an article. (aka mouth-to-mouth or viral advertising)

Thus it’s obvious that the most popular way to find a site, by search engine, represents more than 90% of online users. In other words, only 10% of the people looking for a website will use methods other than search engines.

All search engines employ a ranking algorithm and one of the main rules in a ranking algorithm is to check the location and frequency of keywords on a web page. Don’t forget that algorithms also give weightage to link population (number of web pages linking to your site). When search engine optimization is performed by a qualified, experienced SEO consultant, a site really stands a bigger chance in high search engine rankings. Unless you have a lot of money and can afford to pay the expert, with better knowledge of search engines and how they work, you can also do it on your own.

Understanding the importance of search engines and how they work, will eventually give you enough insights for you to start thinking about the importance of search engine optimization (aka SEO).

What Is Search Engine Optimization - SEO

Posted on: Thursday, November 29th, 2007 | Written by Wakish

Definition

A process of choosing the most appropriate targeted keyword phrases related to your site and ensuring that this ranks your site highly in search engines so that when someone searches for specific phrases it returns your site on tops.

The Process

It basically involves fine tuning the content of your site along with the HTML and Meta tags and also involves appropriate link building process. The most popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, MSN Search, AOL and Ask Jeeves. Search engines keep their methods and ranking algorithms secret, to get credit for finding the most valuable search-results and to deter spam pages from clogging those results.

SEO

The astonishing Aspect

A search engine may use hundreds of factors while ranking the listings where the factors themselves and the weight each carries may change continually. Algorithms can differ so widely that a webpage that ranks #1 in a particular search engine could rank #200 in another search engine.

Why New Sites should strive to have a backlink from another site with higher PR

New sites need not be “submitted” to search engines to be listed. A simple link from a well established site will get the search engines to visit the new site and begin to spider its contents. It can take a few days to even weeks from the referring of a link from such an established site for all the main search engine spiders to commence visiting and indexing the new site.

What if you cannot do SEO yourself?

If you are unable to research and choose keywords and work on your own search engine ranking, you may want to hire someone to work with you on these issues.

SEO Business

Search engine marketing and promotion companies, will look at the plan for your site and make recommendations to increase your search engine ranking and website traffic. If you wish, they will also provide ongoing consultation and reporting to monitor your website and make recommendations for editing and improvements to keep your site traffic flow and your search engine ranking high.

SEO Experts and Web Designers - The 2 Special Ones

Your search engine optimization experts work with your web designer to build an integrated plan right away so that all aspects of design are considered at the same time.
