You remember last time I wrote about Revealing My Experience With How Inactivity Affects My Blog’s Growth where I shared an experiment which is quite unique around the blogosphere and which needs a lot of guts since the ranking of my blog is at stake. But I don’t mind trying out things even if it’s hazardous for my blog. The key point is I have enough trust and conviction with Wakish Wonderz.
While this might seem quite early for a follow-up, I consider it’s important to do so right now. You might recall I said the traffic of Wakish Wonderz has rised 2 times to what it used to be before the experiment. To prove this, here’s the new stats observations:
Stats Before Experiment Starts
1) TECHNORATI: Top 98,000
2) ALEXA: Top 270,000
Stats Caused By The Experiment:
1) TECHNORATI: approximately at 450,000
2) ALEXA: At 1,040,000
Stats At The Time Of This Post
1) TECHNORATI: approximately at 295,396
2) ALEXA: 1,013,000
Net Change:
=> TECHNORATI: +155,000
=> ALEXA: +27,000
While the result above is not good enough, I think it’s just positive for this short recovering period (from the experiment). Technorati is quite good on the whole and Alexa rank really does take a lot of time to stabilize. Based on my present traffic, I expected Alexa to rise more positively, but it seems to be pretty slow to gain back in the cool ranking edge.
Points to be noted:
=> Alexa ranking is something which needs a lot of work and patience as opposed to PR and technorati. The positive growth of alexa ranks depends primarily on the nature of your traffic. (I might write something on Alexa soon)

Like you, I have constantly read and heard about the preaching: “don’t be inactive, this will hurt your blog’s traffic”. As a blogger, I constantly try a lot of things related to my blog. One of my personal experiment, and which needs a lot of guts I should say, was to leave my blog inactive for 2months. “Holy shh…”, Yeah I know you must be wondering, but that’s true.
But I guess you surely have a lot to tell us too, so make a comment asap.
What I Mean By Inactive:
- I don’t update my blog with articles, nor editing links or posts.
- I stop being active on social sites and hence decrease my online presence and networking
- But I was deleting spams, since no one wants to accumalate like over 3,000+ junks after 2months
First, let’s observe some stats of Wakish Wonderz:
Stats Before Experiment:
1) PR RANK: Just dropped from PR4 to PR3 (due to not meeting google’s new requirements)
2) TECHNORATI: Top 98,000
3) ALEXA: Top 270,000
Stats After Experiment:
1) PR3
2) TECHNORATI: approximately at 450,000
3) ALEXA: At 1,040,000
Calculations (approximately):
=> technorati rank dropped by -352,000
=> Alexa rank dropped by -770,000
Now What About My Traffic
Traffic on Wakish Wonderz comes from mainly 3 ways:
1) Search Engines (70%)
2) Social sites (15%)
3) Linkbacks from other bloggers/webmasters (15%)
(I’m not yet into paid advertising like Adwords for the moment)
So, my observation with traffic is that during the period of my inactivity, I lost all my traffic from social sites and the new percentage were as follows:
1) Search Engines (50%)
2) Linkbacks from other bloggers/webmasters (20%)
3) Social sites(0%)
Loss in traffic out of 100% was -30%
Explanation And Observation
I thus observed that inactivity has a big impact on traffic from social sites and also on search engine referrals. But to my great surprise, I noticed more linkbacks from other sites and blogs. Was this a coincidence or a sign that some of my fellow bloggers silently cared about me not being ‘around’? After a closer investigation, the answer was two-fold; some of my pillar articles were really appreciated by others causing them to linkback to me and some of the bloggers (not necessary friends) do care! I even got a couple of messages asking if everything was alright.

Anything Positive From This Experiment?
1) Now, that I have closely observed from where and how my traffic is coming, this helps me in coming back and to tweak things more confidently.
2) You get to know who really cares about your blog and you
3) You get a big rest, stepping back to observe things better
The Best Part
=> The traffic of Wakish Wonderz has rised 2 times to what it used to be before the experiment and this let me foresee some changes which I will have to make, like hosting and also the way my blog ranks. So, wish me luck to perform even better

The feature that most of us have been so willing to have, is finally here. The possibility to add more than one blog to a single account has just been announced by Entrecard.
This feature should have already been here since day 1. Having to make another account per blog, was really a stupid thing if they at least took time to get things right from the beginning.
Anyway, this feature is here at last, so enjoy!

It’s been so long that I see and hear Twitter, Twitter and Twitter. It seems like everyone has been twittered since its arrival. So i decided to give Twitter a go - Follow Me!.
What Twitter is
- A micro blogging system, you can only write a maximum of 140 charactors with no formatting. It’s just plain text messages, like an SMS.
- A place to let others know “what you are doing“. You can update others on anything you want, or about things you are doing in real time.
- Modes of interaction with Twitter can be done in several ways:
1) Your mobile phones
2) Gtalk
3) 3rd Party Twitter clients
4) Facebook Apps
5) Other apps created by so called “Twitter Fans”..etc
The Creator Of Twitter Are Smart Guys
At first, I thought Twitter was just another piece of crap. But as I tried to understand it, I saw some incredible ingenuity behind it. It has been devised with much thoughts and it will produce a great impact in the marketing world and the alikes. It is a platform nourishing and growing potential clients for financial gains, just as facebook (who is already a big honeycomb for advertisers). And there are so many other things which will amaze us very soon as the community grows, trust me on that! Hats-off to the creators.. There’s so many good lessons to learn from Twitter.
Twitter Better Than Facebook
I will say that the “technology” and the “philosophy” behind Twitter excels that of facebook in many ways. We will not explore all these facets in this article, but may be in a future posts soon..
Twitter does only one thing, it just asks you a simple question “What are you doing?“. And this question is enough to create an addiction and an urge of communication from people.
One thing which strikes me is that, Twitter has documented cleanly and openly its API. This is a tremendous thing. Meaning along with it, anyone truely interested with working closely with Twitter, will benefit along the surge, as it goes..
How Does Twitter Work
You just need to be followed and to follow. The “Follow Me” means that anyone “following” you, will see your updates and messages. And in turn you can see their updates by following them. It’s basically a one-to-one, one-to-many or many-to-many relationship which can develop. Another thing is that, unlike an email, you will not be bogged down with spams, junks or any such things. You just select who to follow and when not too..etc. If you want to follow, it’s cool, if you don’t want to follow no one will urge you.. Just Chill!
How Is Wakish Doing On Twitter
For the time being, I don’t have anything planned as to how Twitter can benefit or help me. But so far, I see most people posting updates of their blogs, some doing sales, advertising while others just updating their “followers” about their real life actions.
But one thing is for sure, don’t sell on Twitter! It’s not meant for this as far as I have observed the interface and the aim behind. If you are going to sell, good bye to your audience!
Follow me on Twitter, and I will be very happy to follow you as well. Let’s see how things will turn out

I recently read a thoughful and insightful article on Problogger where Darren Rowse explains: “A Secret to Blogging Success - Build Upon What You Build“.
I was very touched by this article. It is something which is so simple and effective and which we fail to take time to think about. Not because we are not sensible, but due to the fact that we are so taken by the pace of our life and objectives. It often takes the advice of someone else to revive your motivations, aspirations and to rise stronger.
What I read on Problogger, kept hitting my mind this weekend. It is something which I need to focus more on because I tend to do so many things at the same time; I blog, I code, I design, I read, I work..etc, etc. But at times I think I just fail to build upon what I have already built. So I want to say a BIG thanks to Darren for this “push“.
While Darren applies this technique for blogging, I believe this is very fruitful if you also apply it to any of your daily challenging nitty gritty.
And I’m sure you too might benefit from what Darren said and that’s why I wanted to draw this article to your attention - you’ll thank me later!
Have a nice week!
