I Got A Real Life Job – Wakish Now A Part-Time Blogger

The Job

It’s been two weeks now since I’m working as a System Developer. We are working on .Net Platforms, coding specially in C#.Net (pronounced as C-Sharp dot net) and ASP.Net. The job is very challenging and needs speed of execution which really fascinates me. So wish me luck to achieve high :)

The Unexpected – The First Interview And A Big One

It all started when I made my first ever interview with a big big company known as Deutsche Bank. I sent my CV and a motivation letter as per advertised. I was surprised to get a call saying I was called for the first round of interviews and that I was selected. That was totally amazing for me and I think my CV and motivation letter was solid. There were big guys from UK who came to Mauritius to convey those interviews since this Deutsche Bank branch in Mauritius is a special key one as they told me.
And in this process, I made it up till the last rounds of interviews where the response was “You have an amazing attitude, personality and brilliant skills. BUT you lack working experience which is crucial for our company.” So finally, I was NOT to get the job since in the last round there was only 2 guys selected; me and the other one, who obviously had the “working experience” advantage over me. Too bad for me! :(

The Second Interview – Amazingly Unexpected

But then my dad said: “common it’s your first ever interview and that was a brilliant one (keeping in mind I was still expecting my results and did not have a working experience), I’m sure the next would be successful“. That gave me motivation and I finally applied for a second interview.

This one had a rather more complicated situation since we had a series of written tests. If we pass those tests, then only we can be called for an interview. So, I went for the tests, first part was coding/programming which was pretty much my thing. Second part was a theory part (i hate learning theories by heart) and the third one was an aptitude test. Damm, that aptitude test was like a chinese paper or greek paper to me, I could not understand anything. I was about to leave the test and drop out when suddenly I said to myself “since I’m here, why not do all that I can?” and besides I had my dad in my thoughts,  how could I possibly disappoint him like that..).
After two days, bingo! I get a call saying “I passed the test and was called for an interview”. Things were going absolutely fast, crazy and amazing for me.
I made it for the interview where I was surprised to know that my aptitude test was remarkable. Well..I surprised myself..lol

The Second Interview Was A Success

Yeah, the interview went on fine, the boss said I gave a very good impression and had the necessary skills and was also amazed to see that I was also an online game programmer. He said: “It’s totally amazing to find young people like you sitting and coding at home..“).

And guess what? The next week, I got another phone call and finally the answer was: “You got the job!“. Eureka! I can’t explain how this news was so great for me and for my family.

Well, there is so much more that I want to talk, but I guess I should not bore you too much..lol

My Blogging Trend Influenced?

It will be influenced in the sense that I will now be a part-time blogger and I will be able to blog only on Weekends or holidays. Meaning you can expect my blogging frequency to be as low as 1 or 2 posts per Week. But I will put my best to make those posts be of good value and quality! ;)

Else, I don’t think of more impacts since I love blogging and my internet activites so far..

    Hey Wakish,
Congrats for getting the job! I’ve had the same experience not getting the job because of the lack of experience although, academic wise, I’m better than my counter part. I guess experienc is a big deal for employers.

I didn’t know you’re a programmer. :) Good luck to your new job and hope you don’t get too busy not to drop by at Blogging Mix. :D

    Cheers Mate,
    Rocky

Hey there BloggingMix.. it’s so nice to see you around ;)

Yeah, experienc is a big deal for employers unfortunately.. but there are employers who value your worth more than your experience, just what happened in my case in getting that job ;) So, I think we should be firm on our belief and skills and it will surely make us win now or later ;)

Yeah, I’m a programmer ;) Thanks for the wishes mate ;)
No worries, I will be around Blogging Mix ;)

    Cheers!

When I first started following the King on his quest to blog, I found one constant behind his endeavor – Wakish. Being smart in elementary maths ( not the complicated stuff which programmers use), I simply had to add “2+2″….and i did not come up with 5 -So, It did not take me long to unravel the mystery.

Although, I am not a “regular” visitor on Wakish Wonderz, I am simply amazed at the quality of the work which you put out. It has grown in leaps and bounds. The spectrum of the subject covered, from the casual to the highly detailed technical subjects…..all intended to entertain, educate and inspire….are simply amazing. So no “Wonderz”, that you land a job with a mutlinational, after initially doubting your chances…..Remember, to restate something which I heard recently, “for you to WIN it, you have be IN it”….Once you are IN it, you have got to BELIEVE. Belief in oneself brings confidence, and confidence in itself gives you a boost which no one else can inject in you.

I am simply happy for you…..but I got to say this, I am very partial to the King – simply because of his burning desire to explore this new world of blogging, when he could have easily taken the lawnchair, sit down, relax and keep rocking into retirement.

I derive inspiration from both of you and wish you all the best.

    Cheers!

    Abed
